Print-ready files

Artwork Guidelines

Set up your file correctly and your job moves faster.

Good artwork is the quickest route to good print. A press-ready file means we can send your proof quickly, and on rush orders it can be the difference between making the same-day slot and missing it. These guidelines cover the essentials for paper products, banners, signage and apparel. If something here is unfamiliar, our design team can prepare the file for you.

Every order gets a digital proof before production. We check files for common problems such as low resolution or missing bleed and flag them on the proof. Please check spelling, numbers and details carefully: once you approve a proof, you are responsible for its content, and corrections after printing would need a reprint.

Accepted file types

We accept the following formats. Vector files keep edges sharp at any size.

  • PDF (preferred, with fonts embedded or outlined)
  • AI and EPS (text converted to outlines)
  • SVG for logos and vector graphics
  • High-resolution PNG or JPG

Bleed and safe area

Add 3 mm bleed on all sides of printed items. Bleed is extra background that runs past the trim line, so there are no white slivers when the sheet is cut. Keep text and important details at least a few millimetres inside the trim line so nothing is cut off. Banners, flags and large-format items may have their own setup notes on the product page.

Resolution and colour

Images should be high resolution at the printed size. Images taken from websites or social media are usually too small and print blurry. Design in CMYK where possible for printed items. Colours on screen can differ slightly from print, because screens emit light and paper reflects it. For exact brand colours, mention them when you order. Large posters and PVC banners are viewed from further away, so they can tolerate a lower image resolution than business cards.

Artwork for T-shirts and apparel

For DTF printing, send a PNG with a transparent background or a vector file. Print sizes run from A6 to A2, and print positions include front, back, left chest and sleeves. For embroidery and screen printing, vector logos give the cleanest result.

Need help?

Common reasons files are sent back: text too close to the edge, no bleed, images copied from the web, fonts not embedded, or a design set up at the wrong size.

Tick "design it for me" when you order, or price a job on design services. When you are ready, print online or use the instant quote.

Common questions

What is bleed and why do I need it?

Bleed is 3 mm of extra background around your design that is trimmed off after printing. It prevents thin white edges if the cut is very slightly off. Without bleed, backgrounds that run to the edge can look uneven.

Can I send a Word document or a photo?

For printing, PDF, AI, EPS, SVG or high-resolution PNG or JPG work well. If you only have a Word document or a photo, send it and we can advise, or tick "design it for me" and we will rebuild it properly.

Why does my print look different from my screen?

Screens show colour with light, while print uses ink on paper, fabric or vinyl. Colours can differ slightly between the two. Designing in CMYK and mentioning brand colours when you order helps us get closer.

Who is responsible for spelling mistakes?

We send a digital proof for every job. Once you approve the proof, you are responsible for spelling, wording and details. Please check names, numbers, dates and contact details carefully before you approve.
